Dr Corentin Astier
A double action: reshaping the volumes and naturally stimulating collagen.
ANTI-AGE Magazine: In your opinion, what are the indications for tensor threads?
DR CORENTIN ASTIER: For me, tensor threads have two main properties: their gentle pulling action on the facial tissues and their tissue inducing action, as when they break down, collagen is produced to firm up the tissues. The indications are mild to moderate sagging in the lower face and cheekbones, jowls and a loss of skin firmness.
AAM: At what age do you recommend tensor threads?

DR C.A.: Generally between age 35 and 55. Age is not the only criterion; I base myself more on the skin quality and extent of the sagging.
AAM: What type of tensor threads do you use?
DR.C.A.: I mainly use barbed L-polylactic acid and caprolactone threads as they give a good pulling effect.
AAM: Do you combine other aesthetic treatments with tensor threads?
DR C.A.: Yes, I often combine them with tissue inducers, hyaluronic acid or treatments that improve the skin quality, such as mesotherapy, skinboosters or peels, for a more comprehensive and harmonious result. It is important to preserve all of the anatomical layers that make up the face.
AAM: Can tensor threads be used to avoid having a surgical face lift?
DR C.A.: Yes, of course, providing the patient has not already been recommended for surgery. Fighting the signs of aging with tensor threads is useful and should be considered. It is not a definitive solution, but a good compromise to delay the need for a surgical lift.
AAM: Do tensor threads have enough of a pulling action nowadays? How long does it take to insert tensor threads?
DR.C.A.: Yes, for mild to moderate sagging, the current threads are better, as they grip well and have a more reliable hold. They take an average of 30 to 45 minutes to insert in a doctor’s office.
AAM: How much do they cost? Can you give us a ballpark figure?
DR C.A.: The price depends on the number of threads and the areas treated, but in general, they cost between 800 and 1,500 euros per session.
AAM: What instructions do you give patients after having tensor threads inserted?
DR C.A.: I stress that they need to rest their facial muscles for a few days: avoid any excessive facial expressions, intense sport, aesthetic treatments and massages for two weeks to a month. However, the patient can go about their daily life as usual.
AAM: Would you recommend tensor threads to improve a person’s neck?
DR C.A.: This is a common indication, but I do not personally treat the neck. For this indication, I would focus more on the threads’ collagen-inducing property as opposed to their pulling effect.
