Natural is back in fashion and demand for corrective options is on the rise.
Every ten years after menopause, the skin’s hydration, tone and elasticity are reduced by approximately 20-25%. It is has been shown that these age-related changes are associated with a reduction in levels of hyaluronic acid and collagen synthesis.
During menopause, the perioral area and lips undergo a series of changes, which are the first clinical signs of hypoestrogenism. Reduced vascularization, collagen synthesis and hyaluronic acid mean that the lips, especially the upper lip, lose their volume and more wrinkles appear.
How can this be corrected to give the patient younger-looking skin without creating a “hyaluronic” face?
Depending on age, signs of skin aging in the perioral area should be treated with different combinations of short and long-term treatments. In many cases, it is difficult to obtain effective results using only one therapeutic method. But, by combining different treatments, such as peelings, boosters, BoNT-A and fillers, we can achieve longer lasting, more natural results.
Aesthetic problems in lip and perioral zone
Thin lips / Flat lips / Asymmetry / Fuzzy contours / Smoker’s wrinkles / Marionette lines / Minor tissue flaws (e.g. scars)
Correction Protocol
ТСА 15% (1 procedure, 2-week break)
Pluryal® Booster (2- 3 procedures, 3-week break)
BoNT-A (1 procedure, 2-week break)
HA correction (Pluryal® and Pluryal® Volume)
It is advisable to have topical injections of non-stabilized hyaluronic acid with glycerol Pluryal® Booster in the perioral area in the form of superficial micro-papular injections in the lips. This involves 3 treatments with 3-week intervals depending on how dry the skin and mucosa are. Pluryal® Booster rehydrates the skin, stimulates collagen production and accelerates regeneration, as well as stimulating angiogenesis and antioxydation.
Perioral area
HA filler should be used after the course of Booster treatments. Pluryal® Filler – consisting of medium cross-linked HA with the right viscosity and cohesion for the upper perioral areas – is injected along the wrinkles with a needle and/or cannula. For the lower perioral area and marionette lines, it is better to use a multi-layer retrograde fan technique with a 27G cannula.
Lip correction
At any age, a well-proportioned face is usually considered more pleasing and beautiful. Ideally, the mouth should be one and half times longer than the eye and the distance between the eyes equal to the width of the eye.
The lip borders should touch the lines drawn through the inner edge of the pupils.
For women, the nasolabial angle should preferably be greater than 90 degrees. The kind of correction required depends on the type of face, proportions, fullness and shape of the lips. If there is no asymmetry and the patient simply wishes to increase the volume of their lips, they can start by filling the lip contour directly from the border with 0.5-0.7ml of Pluryal®.
