A New Clinical Study Reveals Remarkable Results of Altrient Liposomal Vitamin C
Dr Sophie Domergue and Jonathan Orchard
Two decades ago, Altrient shook up the supplement industry with its innovative liposomal vitamin C and patented manufacturing process. Renowned for its commitment to innovation and rigorous testing, independent studies now highlight their liposomal vitamin C for its notable antioxidant benefits, particularly in promoting hair health and supporting anti-aging skincare.
ANTI-AGE MAGAZINE: What prompted you to conduct clinical trials on Altrient liposomal vitamin C to evaluate its effects on skin and hair?
JONATHAN ORCHARD: Altrient Liposomal Vitamin C stands out for its unique properties. Following the significant findings of a 2014 independent study on skin firmness, we sought to explore its effects on hair health. Today, the results confirm the benefits of Altrient C for both skin and hair.
AA MAG: How does Altrient Liposomal Vitamin C impact skin and hair quality?
Dr. SOPHIE DOMERGUE: Collagen, a major extracellular matrix component, supports skin cells in the dermis. Aging reduces collagen production, leading to decreased skin hydration, elasticity, and firmness, contributing to visible aging. Vitamin C
is crucial for collagen production, acting as a cofactor for enzymes like Prolyl hydroxylase and Lysyl hydroxylase, which stabilise and strengthen collagen. Dermal fibroblasts, including those in hair follicles, rely on vitamin C for collagen synthesis, essential for hair formation, growth, and cycling. Papilla cells in hair follicles produce type 1 and 3 collagen during the Anagen growth phase, playing a pivotal role in hair formation, growth, and cycling.
AA MAG: What is the broader impact of Altrient Liposomal Vitamin C on skin and hair health?
S.D.: Maintaining collagen synthesis as we age is crucial, and vitamin C plays a central role in this process.
• It supports cellular activity in collagen production within hair follicles, and aids in tissue healing and repair.
• Its antioxidant properties protect cells from oxidative stress, which can damage both skin and hair follicles.
• It helps maintain a healthy scalp by boosting collagen levels, fostering an ideal environment for hair growth.
• It contributes to the normal formation of collagen needed for the function of blood vessels that supply oxygen to hair follicles.
• It also enhances iron absorption, which is essential for hemoglobin production and overall hair health.
AA MAG: What makes Altrient Liposomal Vitamin C so effective?
J.O.: Developed 20 years ago by LivOn Labs, Altrient Liposomal Vitamin C is distinguished by its unique gel texture and patented manufacturing process, ensuring unmatched bioavailability. Cardiologist and one of the world’s leading experts on high-dose and intravenous vitamin C, Dr. Levy, has compared one sachet of Altrient Vitamin C (1g) to the effect of a 10g IV infusion. Altrient’s liposomal encapsulation technique ensures that vitamin C is effectively absorbed into the bloodstream and integrates with cellular membranes, all the while avoiding unwanted gastrointestinal side effects, as shown in key clinical studies.
AA MAG: Could you detail the results of the clinical studies carried on by the UK Princeton Consumer Research Center on skin and hair health?
J.O.: The 2014 double-blind clinical skin study conducted with 45 participants aged 31-61 showed significant improvements over 16 weeks: a 35% increase in elasticity and firmness and a 7.5% reduction in fine lines with one sachet daily. 3g daily led to even more impressive results: a 61% increase in elasticity and firmness and a 13.5% reduction in wrinkles.
The 2023 hair study revealed remarkable results with participants taking two sachets (2g) daily over 12 weeks:
•37.5% reduction in loss of intact hairs
•51% reduction in loss of broken hairs
•19% increase in the number of hairs
•28% increase in hair strength
•20% improvement in thickness of hair
High-resolution macrophotography and the Brush Friction Count Method (BFCM) were used to analyse the hair before and after treatment.
AA MAG: LivOn Labs has also developed other liposomal vitamins and amino acids, including liposomal glutathione. What skin benefits does liposomal glutathione offer?
J.O.: Developing Altrient’s liposomal glutathione was a significant challenge, as it required higher phospholipid concentrations for optimal encapsulation compared to vitamin C. Our formulation achieves 60% phospholipids, offering bioavailability comparable to intravenous administration. A high level of phosphatidylcholine is a key component of Altrient’s liposomes. It plays a crucial role in nutrient absorption, supports cellular membrane integrity, liver health, and enhances the delivery of both vitamin C and glutathione.
S.D.: I use Altrient vitamin C daily and recommend it, especially alongside glutathione. This combination complements surgical and aesthetic protocols and accelerates the rejuvenating process. Glutathione, a tripeptide composed of L-cysteine, L-glutamic acid, and glycine, is the body’s most important antioxidant. It works synergistically with vitamin C to protect against oxidative stress, a key factor in premature aging. Glutathione “recharges” vitamin C in electrons when depleting, ensuring continuous protection against free radicals, maintaining cellular balance, and reducing melanin production for a clearer complexion. Determining the posology of both supplements is key to maximise their effectiveness. L
