The era of ultra-personalised treatments!
Thierry Piolatto
With its Odyssey programmes, the Barrière Group is offering a new, tailored approach for guests in its La Baule establishment.
The Thalasso & Spa offer includes seven Odysseys (à la carte, fitness, massage, slimming, tailored health, osteo-physio, transformation), 5 Breaks and 4 Getaways. The ‘tailored health’ odyssey is ideal for guests who want a programme that is comprehensive and prescribed by a resident doctor, as two video appointments are carried out prior to your stay. This enables the doctor to identify your requirements, plan your programme in advance and suggest five suitable treatments and/or activities per day. Two more appointments and a Be O’check dietary assessment, carried out by the centre’s dietician, allow the programme to be adapted during your stay. This is followed by two other appointments after you have returned home, then a monthly video appointment for the next three months. The treatments performed during your stay depend on the diagnosis made prior to your arrival, and might include face and body treatments, massages, dietary hypnosis or sophrology sessions, DNA sequencing to analyse the microbiota and impedance meters.
Dr Grard explains this approach: “We focus on ultra-personalisation, with diagnoses that allow us to identify each guest’s requirements, their risk of burn-out or severe stress, whether they need weight loss or anti-aging treatments, etc. We can also offer blood tests to complete these diagnoses and enable us to evaluate any dietary deficiencies, detect their respiratory capacities, and so on. Our approach is health-orientated, and guests can make use of our thalassotherapy tools and indoor and outdoor aqua sports sessions, either on their own or in a group, all supported by a team of staff who respond to the guests’ specific requirements in a personalised way.” The establishment also offers invasive and non-invasive aesthetic medicine treatments with La Clinique des Champs Elysées.
“Let’s take a person who is 3kg overweight as an example. We’d start by checking their weight and taking their measurements using a metric impedance meter that calculates their fat, bone, muscle and hydric mass. Our aim is for them to lose fat, not muscle, so the treatments focus on sport to boost blood circulation, jet showers, saunas and wraps that raise the ventral temperature while optimising the assimilation of minerals, lymphatic drainage if they have too much extracellular water, and aesthetic medicine treatments to target the fat stores with cryolipolysis or strengthen the muscles with focused ultrasounds.”
Dr Gente, a GP and specialist in micronutrition, focuses on the microbiota. “I am particularly interested in the microbiota, an organ that has been neglected in recent years. This includes all the microorganisms in our body, and here we are most interested in the intestinal microbiota. It is made up of bacteria, viruses, phage, parasites and fungi. Today, we are capable of interpreting the DNA sequence of bacteria to better understand their different families and find out whether they are in excess or deficient, which enables us to reboot the production of vitamin B, K or short-chain fatty acids. Following these analyses, we can offer assessments that alert the patient about their mineral and vitamin levels, the presence of heavy metals, oxidative stress, and their liver, intestine, brain and hormone function. Our role is to improve cell function, as nutrition is a key part of this optimisation. For an anti-aging approach, we analyse stress, the presence of heavy metals (such as mercury), glycation and cardiac coherence to suggest meditation, sophrology or sport to the guest, using tools such as the Huber 360, aquagym sessions and full body cryotherapy to ‘reset’ the body and promote cell regeneration.
As treatment specialist Kirsten explains, the approach includes a selection of health-boosting and relaxation techniques, Vital Dôme (infra-red) wraps and fitness courses, plus use of the hydrotherapy and spa area. “We have facial techniques such as Hydrafacial, and our ‘Instant de peau’ treatment includes a diagnosis to analyse the skin, hydration levels, sebum, elasticity and pigmentation marks. First of all, you fill out a questionnaire with our practitioner, who carries out a personalised diagnosis, then you are given a tailored Biologique Recherche expert treatment. This includes an initial cleansing phase with a peel before a booster is applied to restructure the skin texture, then a mask tailored to your requirements. The treatment is rounded off with various serums for hydration, anti-aging, etc. An eye contour cream is applied, as well as a day cream, not forgetting a nourishing lip balm. It gives an immediate anti-aging effect, for radiant skin and deep hydration. The ‘Seconde Peau’ treatment (80% hyaluronic acid) can be carried out after injections to regenerate the skin cells. For at-home care, pop into the Beauty Corner, where you will find suitable Algologie beauty products and Phytoscience food supplements.”
All of these new approaches offer a truly unique experience in an exceptional resort, for relaxation, pleasure and performance! l
