EXION fractional RF with microneedling holds a central place in the arsenal of global and combined treatments. It is suitable for all skin types, all ages and all genders.
If I had to choose just one treatment I could perform in aesthetic medicine, right now, it would be EXION fractional RF with microneedling. BTL Aesthetics understood that they needed to improve patient comfort for this treatment because, until now, pain had been a limiting factor in this kind of procedure. Now a go-to treatment, it is effective and natural-looking, and makes a lot of sense.
EXION fractional RF with microneedling is a treatment that penetrates the tissues and stimulates the fibroblasts in a unique, efficient and non-aggressive way. No products and no foreign bodies are injected into the skin.
Its monopolar radiofrequency is delivered in a targeted way that is adapted to each indication, using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to control its power and intensity. This allows the device to work just above the pain receptors thanks to a thermal gradient that prolongs the work of the needles from 3.5mm to 7.5mm underneath the skin. Apart from when we are treating the contour of the mouth, which remains a highly sensitive and delicate area, we no longer need to use an anaesthetic cream in order to treat patients comfortably (which also makes it considerably easier for the doctor to carry out the procedure). In my practice, I recommend global protocols rather than ones that focus on specific areas, and I combine treatments for the face, neck, under the chin and décolleté. I have primarily noticed that the treatment offers results on the skin quality: a smoothing effect that erases any new wrinkles, correcting and improving the skin texture, reducing pores and acne scars, and improving firmness, coupled with a glow-enhancing and cheekbone-lifting effect. I also notice an improvement in the infra-orbital area (eye bags and fine lines).
EXION fractional RF with microneedling means that I no longer need to resort to injections in the peri-buccal area because it already has a plumping action in this area.
Three to four sessions spaced a month apart are required, and I then recommend having 1 to 2 sessions per year to maintain the skin quality. The side effects are mild: erythema, mild oedema, small needle pricks that are very easy to camouflage. I recommend that patients avoid scheduling any meetings on the same day, and warn them that there might still be some light swelling the following day.
The counterindications are: pregnancy and breastfeeding, tanned skin (however, the treatment can be carried out on patients with black or olive skin), inflammatory acne, damaged skin. This treatment should not be performed on patients who are undergoing dental treatment. It is suitable as a preventative treatment for younger patients, and can be used as a corrective treatment for patients in their forties, as it will boost their fibroblasts more intensely, which can reduce the need for injections. Its natural-looking results make it a choice treatment, particularly for men.
