Dr Stéphane Rault
In aesthetic medicine, we seek to achieve a well-proportioned look by combining various techniques. Every treatment has its place in a coherent treatment plan, where medical stringency is combined with artistic flair.
As a dermatologist, it is essential that I am able to offer a range of aesthetic treatments. Every technique responds to a specific requirement: radiance boost, improving the skin’s texture, deep restructuring, etc. We therefore adapt every treatment to the patient’s requirements – such as their age, genetic factors and environmental factors – in order to make it relevant.
ANTI-AGE MAGAZINE: In 2025, what are your patients looking for?
DOCTOR STEPHANE RAULT: There are three categories of patient:
- Those with a very fixed idea of what they want, often inspired by social media and magazines, who come for a specific technique.
- Those who are well informed but are seeking advice and want to explore several options.
- Those without any preconceived ideas, who are counting on my expertise to suggest the most suitable solution for their body and their requirements.
Thanks to my versatile palette of techniques, I can suggest a fully personalised and targeted protocol.
AAM: Does the complementary nature of your procedures allow you to achieve better results?
DR S.R.: A protocol’s efficacy does not rely on just one treatment, but rather the synergy between several techniques. Every treatment addresses a different layer of the skin, and we achieve the most harmonious and longest-lasting results by combining these actions. Surface-level treatments target the epidermis, to boost the complexion’s radiance and improve the skin’s texture (superficial peels, Hydrafacial, etc.). Conversely, deeper treatments (Frax lasers, Sofwave, CO₂ lasers, Exopeel, etc.) target the layers of the dermis where the fibroblasts can be found, the cells that are responsible for producing collagen and elastin.
This method of combining techniques is applied in two ways:
- Addressing the different requirements of each treatment zone;
- If only treating one area, using a combination of several techniques to intensify the results.
Every protocol is adapted to the treatment area, the skin’s condition and the patient’s aims. This comprehensive, tailored approach is the signature of modern-day aesthetic medicine.
AAM: Does it not scare patients if you suggest too many aesthetic medicine procedures in their first appointment?

DR S.R.: Our aim is to strike the right balance. For patients who might feel intimidated, we need to nurture a relationship of trust by starting with gentle procedures. On the other hand, you need to know when to get straight to the point. For example, when treating deep acne scars, I suggest a deep peel and a fractional CO₂ laser treatment from the outset. We combine technical precision with personalisation throughout the whole process, coupled with calm, professional guidance.
AAM: Do patients always have to have a combination of treatments?
DR S.R.: Combining the treatments can be useful, but it is not always compulsory. For example, for a patient whose cheeks have hollowed out but who has a good skin texture, we can offer a targeted volume-boosting treatment, such as polylactic acid. There is no point in adding any unnecessary treatments: you need to pay attention to what is really needed and offer up the most suitable solution.
AAM: Why would you combine different techniques on a patient’s face?
DR S.R.: In aesthetics, we can draw inspiration from master sculptors such as Rodin and Carpeaux, both born in Valenciennes, who knew how to marry different approaches in order to enhance their muse’s beauty. Just like a painter, who uses various pigments to create a beautiful portrait, we doctors combine our aesthetic procedures with the same delicate hand.
The complementary nature of these procedures is the key to the modern-day fountain of eternal youth.
In the olden days, legend told of the hidden sources in Brocéliande forest, where King Arthur’s knights would go to find strength and renewal. Nowadays, we forge our own path by combining complementary aesthetic treatments that are adapted to every stage of life. This tailored approach wins over our demanding clientele, as this subtle art of maintaining elegance for the long term answers the age-old quest for eternal youth.
