Aesthetic medicine procedures are evolving. They now aim to treat the face as a whole, with subtle actions, combined techniques and natural-looking results.
The most common desire expressed by our patients is to prevent aging. They usually want earlier, regular treatment, with the ultimate aim of slowing down the signs of aging as much as possible. Prescribing appropriate cosmeceuticals is an integral part of our consultations, for a holistic and preventative approach.
What the patients want
The most common reasons that patients give for seeing an aesthetic doctor are that they want to look less tired and less sad, they want to look healthier, improve their skin or reduce sagging. It is very rare that people ask us to make them look 20 years old again! Patients are usually very reasonable and just want a fresher, more radiant and natural-looking face that matches their emotions.
After a detailed clinical examination, a treatment plan that combines several different techniques (injections of hyaluronic acid and/or botulinum toxin, lasers and peels, for example) are recommended and scheduled with the patient, ac- cording to their priorities. For consistency, and to help with prevention, a daily skincare routine to be carried out at home is advised.
Prescription of cosmeceuticals or integrated cosmetics
As a complement to the medical procedures, a detailed and personal prescription for cosmeceuticals is drawn up, once a detailed examination of the skin and the requirements of each patient has been carried out. These cosmeceutical treat- ments have high concentrations of active ingredients and offer scientifically-proven clinical results. They are the perfect complement to all aesthetic medicine procedures. By using these products to prepare the skin, the results will be enhanced or the post-procedure recovery time will be reduced. The results can be further accentuated and prolonged if the patients regularly use these products at home.
The prescription of cosmeceuticals will prevent, protect and treat certain signs of aging. The morning routine often includes antioxidant serums that are specific to the type of skin and contain pure vitamin C, a molecule that has proven anti-aging benefits (Phloretin CF, C E Ferulic or Serum 10). A hyaluronic acid-based serum (HA Intensifier) reboots hyalu- ronic acid synthesis in the dermis, something that often slows with aging, in order to hydrate the skin and make it more elastic. SPF 50+ sun protection rounds off the morning routine. In the evening, a resveratrol-based product is recommended (Resveratrol BE) to prevent damage by free radicals, or a retinol-based serum (Retinol 0.3%) for a smoothing action. It is now common practice to combine aesthetic medicine procedures with the application of cosmeceuticals. We have been able to prove the effectiveness and benefits of these treatments thanks to our patients, who sought an expert opinion about these routines and committed to long-term follow-up care.
