Dr Brigitte Desporte
A holistic approach using innovative technologies for the figure.
Many people are constantly worrying about their physical appearance. It is a source of embarrassment and shyness, which affects their self-confidence. “Doctor, I can’t wear a swimming costume any more”, “I don’t dare undress in front of my husband”, “My clothes don’t fit me any more”, “I’ve lost all of my self-confidence”… These are concerns I often hear from my patients, especially in the run-up to summer. How can we safely and effectively respond to these patients’ requests?
Dare to be yourself or do whatever you can to get a perfect fi gure?
As summer approaches, many patients talk to their doctor about feeling unhappy with their body and wanting to change their physical appearance. Their quest for the ideal body haunts them, often driven by social codes and exacerbated by social media. However, these ideals can lead them to having a distorted vision of their own body and can render their quest for self-acceptance even more difficult. As a morpho-aesthetic doctor, I seek to reset the balance for my patients. I offer a medical approach in order to help them feel good about themselves, moving away from beauty criteria and the effects of fashion. From Venus de Milo to Kim Kardashian, we have come a long way!
Aesthetic medicine responds to this desire to change the shape of the body – body contouring – thanks to an approach that is both non-surgical and non-invasive: cryolipolysis. This involves the pain-free reduction of unsightly bulges of fat in targeted areas, while simultaneously toning the skin. It is suitable for anyone and at any time of life: men (with age, to look more attractive, keep their body toned, etc.) or women (post-pre-gnancy, perimenopause, hormone fluctuations, etc.).
In practice: a tailored diagnosis for a treat-ment adapted to every patient
First of all, a personalised consultation is held in order to understand the patient’s desires and carry out a full assessment. It includes taking measurements and weighing the patient, taking photos before treatment, and performing a localised scan using the integrated ultrasound device in the Cristal Pro® machine from Deleo laboratories. This cutting-edge technology allows us to perform safe and effective treatments. The machine has a full range of different-sized handpieces, some with suction, that are designed especially for the different treatment areas, and allow us to work on four areas at the same time. Treating several areas simultaneously is an undeniable asset for the cryolipolysis treatment, both because it allows us to save time (both the patient and the doctor) and makes the results more consistent.
It reshapes the figure as a whole, as illustrated by the abdominal treatment, with two applicators on the abdomen and two applicators on the love handles, or four applicators on the abdominal region. If they are well placed and the settings are correct (applicators, temperature, duration, suction), the figure is efficiently sculpted and in a single session. Intense cold (reaching -12°c) applied on the target areas for 30 to 45 minutes leads to the apoptosis of the adipose cells, which are then broken up by massaging the treatment area. These cells burst, their content is rapidly eliminated and their skeleton is destroyed by the macrophages, for results visible from the end of the first month. The defi nitive results appear after 3 months and lead to a loss of around 30% of the fat mass (variable depending on the indication, the choice of treatment settings, the position of the applicators and the patient’s lifestyle). The after-effects are very straightforward because the treatment is pain-free and requires no anaesthetic. There might be some localised redness and increased sensitivity in the treatment zone. It is also important for the doctor to master the technique and know where to position the applicators. Not doing this properly could lead to bruising, hyperpigmentation or, in very rare cases, a paradoxical increase in adipocytes.
The Cristal Body-Layering® programme, the new approach to body contouring
Cristal Pro® cryolipolysis is part of a holistic protocol called Cristal Body-Layering®, which, when combined with electromagnetic waves to tone the muscles and radiofrequency to firm the skin, fulfi ls a request for non-invasive, comprehensive reshaping. Along with our treatment plans, we always recommend following a balanced diet and doing regular exercise. The Cristal Pro® technique, which has a Medical CE, is a unique and patented cooling system that is completely safe to use, thanks to the protective towelettes placed underneath the applicator to protect the skin. The efficacy and safety of the Cristal Pro® allow it to be used every day for high-definition cryolipolysis treatments. This technique is part of a global and personalised treatment plan that I put together for my patients, who are my main concern at the Senfina Clinic.
