The Cleage Academy is open for business
Dr Ouri Cohen and Dr Laurent Benadiba
We met with Dr Ouri Cohen, aesthetics doctor and founder of Cleage, and Dr Laurent Benadiba, plastic surgeon and co-manager of the Cleage Academy.
What is the concept of the CLEAGE Academy?
Dr Cohen: Our concept is to develop a very high-quality, holistic, pluridisciplinary approach to medicine, beauty and longevity. Since this is a new speciality, the training received at university is not enough. Ten years after it was created, Cleage needed a training department so that we could share our experience in this field.
Dr Benadiba: Though university qualifi cations are essential, we noticed that many doctors are lacking in practical training and many will not continue working in this field. The aim of our concept is to train doctors in aesthetic medicine. Our training courses are orchestrated by a team of doctors who are well known for their in-depth experience in this field. The doctors enrolled on a course at the Cleage Academy receive theoretical and practical training over several months, and this guidance is tailored to every doctor that takes part in our workshops or training courses.
You are the founder of Cleage and co-manager of the Cleage Academy, respectively. What are the selection criteria for future students of the CLEAGE Academy?
Dr Cohen: As founder, I always wanted to train my colleagues or replacements personally. For me, passing on knowledge is our duty as human beings, and there is a real lack of practical training available. What is more, this training could lead to the participants joining the team at Cleage, as a replacement doctor or collaborator, or even one day as an associate doctor.
Dr Benadiba: Our training courses are open to beginners as well as doctors who already have some experience and want to train in a new fi eld or new techniques (lasers, intimate medicine, regenerative medicine, etc.). It is important for doctors to receive high-quality training. Despite the high standard and length of our university courses in France, including 5 years as an intern and 2 years as a resident, the training remains fairly theoretical. Practical training is therefore essential if doctors are to master all of the techniques involved in aesthetic medicine.
What training courses does the Cleage Academy offer? We currently offer fi ve types of training course, which also com-plement one another: 1. Online theory courses, with the option of rewatching the videos on demand, so that they can learn all the basic theory behind aesthetic medicine techniques. 2. Practical workshops along various themes, which are regularly held on our training sites (Toxins, Full-face, Lips, Jawline, Mesotherapy, Peels, Intimate Medicine, Regenerative Medicine, Complications and complaint management, etc.). Our students also have access to the latest innovations developed by top laboratories, such as Teoxane in Switzer-land. These workshops each have a different theme and are carried out on a model in real conditions. 3. Practical courses in small groups, held in one of our centres or clinics in Lyon or Geneva, to immerse the students in a modern environment dedicated to aesthetic medicine. 4. Masterclasses: practical training on a model, held in short bursts over 24 or 48 hours, for quick fire training in the most important procedures. 5. An assessment at the end of the training course, including a written exam and a practical assessment carried out on a patient.
Prestigious laboratories like Teoxane are orga-nising workshops in the Cleage Academy. What will their role be in these training courses? Dr Cohen: A number of laboratories are very interested in our initiative and will take part in these training courses. Since it concerns practical training, the laboratories will provide us with their products and their expertise in this subject, so that we can host these practical workshops successfully. Teoxane, who supply us with their comprehensive range of hyaluronic acids, was the first laboratory to step up for the Cleage Academy.
Dr Benadiba, as co-manager of the Cleage Aca-demy, could you tell us which doctors will be sharing their specific expertise?
Dr Benadiba: We are lucky to have various doctors on board, all with their own specialities, such as: Dr Lourdes Sagnard, who specialises in tensor threads and regenerative medicine; Dr Pierre Bonetti, a specialist in lasers, EBD and medical cosmetology; Dr Ouri Cohen, aesthetics doctor and founder of Cleage, who now focuses on injections and a global approach to the non-surgical treatment of the face. As for me, I am a plastic surgeon and have taught at the university for the last 14 years. I have written a practical training manual and am also manager of the scientific committee at Cleage Geneva. Our team is well-rounded, which enables our students to have a specialist they can refer to for every discipline.
In conclusion, what is the USP of the Cleage Academy, compared with other training centres?
Dr Cohen: Given their extensive practical experience, which is invaluable in terms of training, Cleage’s doctor trainers pass on tips and advice that make all the difference. Thanks to their secrets, aesthetics doctors can save a lot of time when carrying out procedures and will achieve astonishing results for their patients!
Dr Benadiba: Our academy stands out thanks to the versati-lity and experience of our contributors, the access to establishments dedicated to aesthetic medicine such as Cleage Lyon and Cleage Geneva, and the privileged access to innovative products from laboratories such as Teoxane and more. A non negligeable aspect is that our two aesthetics clinics and centres allow doctors to undergo practical training in small groups, as part of a course. No other training centre currently offers this level of guidance.
