EMFACE®, a new advance for restoring the facial foundations

  • 16th March 2023
  • Thierry PIOLATTO

By acting simultaneously on the skin and the muscles, EMFACE® treats the whole face in just 20 minutes, without being operator-dependent.

Reduced wrinkles, a skin tightening effect, toned muscles to reshape the contours of the face: these are just three of the results achieved by this new technology from BTL, thanks to the effects of synchronised radiofrequency and HIFES™ energy.

“A technology that boosts the patients and the doctors’ practice,” said Dr Paul Jarrod Frank (New York). EMFACE® is a unique device specially developed to perform a non-invasive face “lift” and reduce wrinkles by targeting all of the face’s layers and fasciae.

It can be used to treat the jawline, nasolabial folds and expression lines. By stimulating the facial elevator muscles with its HIFES™ energy, EMFACE® increases the muscle tone and thus improves the muscle quality and density. At the same time as the HIFES™ energy, EMFACE® delivers synchronised and selective radiofrequency that heats up the facial tissue. This stimulates the collagen and elastin while controlling the depth of the treatment (no impact on fat). This synchronised RF technology combined with HIFES™ has improved aesthetic medicine treatments for the face by targeting all of the facial layers – skin, fascia, conjunctive tissue and facial muscles – to achieve a complete “lifting” effect on the whole face.

The aim is not to lose fat but rather to firm up the skin and muscles of the face and perform a needle-free facial restoration that is compatible with injections. The progress made in terms of non-surgical correction, lasers and injectable products has restricted surgical indications, and their less invasive character encourages patients to undergo these treatments. Given that every face ages differently, the success of the treatment requires a precise assessment of how the face is aging in order to suggest the personalised treatment that is most likely to satisfy the patient.

EMFACE® slots in perfectly alongside hyaluronic acid or botulinum toxin treatments. It is a non-invasive and painfree treatment, easy to use and requires no downtime for the patient. Applicators that mould to the contours of the faceThe other major advance with regard to EMFACE® is that three flexible applicators are used – one on the forehead and two on the cheeks – which simultaneously deliver RF and HIFES™, and which respect the facial anatomy.

The result depends on the precision and not the amount of energy emitted. Treating the face is complex and requires us to take into account various aspects, such as volume, skin sagging, tonicity of the facial muscles, quality of the ligaments and tissue structures. The interconnection between the muscles and the skin plays a fundamental role when rejuvenating the face, for a firmer appearance. With EMFACE®, the muscles are pulled up, the eyebrows are lifted, the wrinkles are reduced and the oval of the face is redefined. The definitive results appear 4 to 6 weeks after the last treatment (wrinkles reduced by 37%, muscle tone improved by 30% and 26% more collagen with double the number of elastin fibres). The skin does not age on its own; the subcutaneous tissues and muscles age too. EMFACE® allows us to delay the atrophy of the muscle tissues to restore and improve the facial contours. Today EMFACE® fulfils the demand for natural-looking results.
