The Longevity Suite has just opened the Longevity Spa inside the Portrait Milano, a luxury 5-star hotel in the prestigious Quadrilatero della Moda neighbourhood in Milan.

In a fully renovated, former 16th century seminary, this 700m2 wellness centre now houses a swimming pool, steam room, sauna, relaxation area, gym and several treatment booths. Behind this new launch is a network of European city-based clinics that focus on biohacking and anti-aging, called The Longevity Suite. This is the first-ever urban spa that combines cutting-edge biohacking technologies with a holistic vision of the philosophies of the world’s “blue zones”, areas that are characterised by their population’s exceptional longevity.

History and glamour

The venue was designed by Studio B+ Architects, managed by Michele Bönan and in collaboration with Roberto Creati (Rebrand Group). Using Italian-made elements wherever possible, the architect designed the wet areas of the spa by drawing inspiration from the building’s origins. A large, vaulted room resting on ten granite columns houses the pool, which looks like the antique reservoirs that can be found underneath many Italian cities or in Istanbul. The materials used include jade-coloured mosaics to decorate the pool, whitewashed plaster for the walls and arches, and rectangular tiles of peperino – a natural, volcanic rock – for the floor. This vast space leads off to the steam room, sauna and showers. The Turkish bath features grey onyx, the sauna is made from tulipwood, and the showers are made from sculpted light stone, evoking the initial stages of a sculpture.

Mind & Body Biohacking

Among the innovations proposed by The Longevity Spa features a new treatment based on biohacking techniques: Mind & Body Biohacking. This treatment – which is designed to “hack” the individual’s biological system in a positive way, by controlling inflammation and slowing down aging – uses Dry Float Therapy, a technology that allows you to dry float above more than 400 litres of warm water, giving body and mind the chance to recover its energy in a simple and versatile way. Reducing gravity has a positive impact on stress, muscle and joint pain, sleep, concentration and overall psychophysical recovery.

Other innovations in The Longevity Spa are the signature Blue Zone rituals. Each one is inspired by the five places on Earth where life expectancy is higher than the worldwide average, and where the people are happier and age better thanks to their lifestyle: Loma Linda in California, Nicoya in Costa Rica, Ikaria in Greece, Sardinia in Italy, and the Japanese island of Okinawa. The Loma Linda Jet Lag Blessing ritual, inspired by a town whose inhabitants live ten years longer than the average American, aims to reboot the biological and circadian rhythms. The Aéras ritual, inspired by ancient thalassotherapy practices,

transports you to the magical land of Sardinia, invigorating the body, stimulating blood and lymphatic circulation and reactivating the natural bioenergetic postural balance. We particularly liked the Iki Sabi ritual, inspired by Okinawa in Japan: blending the ancient Ikigai and Wabi-Sabi philosophies, this treatment harmonises the body and spirit. Using remineralising seaweed leaves, fermented rice water and silk powder, as well as a gentle massage with olfactory symphonies, this ritual makes you feel completely renewed. It helps you to savour the value of what is truly important to ensure you live a long and healthy life.

Anti-aging facials

The Longevity Spa’s treatment list has also been enriched with a partnership with Doctor Barbara Sturm, a well-known German doctor. Three of this prestigious brand’s facials that fight aging and oxidative stress are now available exclusively in The Longevity Spa in Italy. Dr Sturm has transposed the scientific knowledge from her clinical research and her orthopaedic practice into the field of aesthetics. “Aesthetics is a combination of art and science and is a fascinating challenge, with immediate results that are very gratifying for patients,” announced Dr Sturm. “I started by injecting hyaluronic acid and Botox, which gave excellent results, but I couldn’t help but think that it would be an additional anti-aging booster for the skin to combine these components with the body’s anti-inflammatory healing factors, as we do in orthopaedic medicine.” In 2002, she created her MCX treatment, a facial treatment with platelet-rich plasma (PRP), which is now recognised by many under the name “blood facial”, followed closely by her famous “MC1” cream, a tailored moisturiser containing plasma, which exploits the power of the body’s own proteins in a healing formula for the skin. Dr Sturm’s patients needed a complete, effective and scientifically-proven treatment. You can now try it in Milan or in the group’s other centres across Europe.
