Using tensor threads to lift the tip of the nose, a new solution to fulfil the patients’ requirements.
In recent years, we have seen an evolution in the demands of patients who wish to correct their nose. They now seek out information and solutions to match their ever more specific requirements.
Dr Elbaz, you are a renowned expert in aesthetic medicine, particularly rhinoplasty. Have you noticed any changes in requests for medical rhinoplasty? Are you often asked to correct the tip of the nose, which tends to drop with age?
It is clear that, in recent years, the articles written about medical rhinoplasty – the latest tool in the aesthetic medicine arsenal – have cast a chill on surgical rhinoplasty. We have to accept this and, as a rhinoplasty specialist, it would be a mistake not to offer medical rhinoplasty when we consider the zeal of certain judges who, quite rightly, seek to ensure that any procedures have been carried out with both parties’ informed consent. As a consequence, the demand for medical rhinoplasty is on the rise and concerns patients who would not previously have considered camouflaging any bumps, correcting minor asymmetry or lifting the tip of their nose, etc.
With age, the tip of the nose tends to drop and this is accentuated when we smile. The angle between the lip and nose is reduced, and its effect is accentuated by the shadow of the drooping nose. Opening up this angle, attracting light back into the area and lifting the tip of the nose has a significant effect on the overall aesthetic of the nose.
Did this make you want to try tensor threads (specially developed for the nose) in order to improve the tip of the nose? If so, which ones would you use and why?
I was immediately drawn to the idea of using tensor threads to lift the tip of the nose. The patient can go home straight afterwards, with or without minor side effects such as mild oedema or slight ecchymosis, which disappear after a few days. I must say that the Definisse™ Nose tensor threads from Relife are perfectly suited to this request. Their length is ideal (9cm) and they are fitted with bi-directional, convergent barbs made from L-polylactic acid and caprolactone, which can be used to lift the tip of the nose. These resorbable threads have two effects: an immediate firming effect and a delayed revitalising effect because, as they are absorbed, the components of these tensor threads (L-polylactic acid and caprolactone) stimulate collagen production, which helps to fight against skin aging in the nose and boosts radiance in this important facial feature.
Have you had the opportunity to use Definisse™ Nose tensor threads from Relife, part of the Menarini group?
I discovered them a few months ago and their composition, which is specially-designed for the nose, won me over immediately. The procedure is straightforward and carried out under local anaesthetic. The results are immediate and subtle, and the patient goes home feeling happy about their appearance, thanks to the discreet yet noticeable improvement to their nose, which appears shorter, making their smile more attractive and boosting radiance in the whole middle part of the face.
