Dr Rachna Murthy
Where art meets science, Dr. Rachna Murthy’s vision individualised precision, artistry, and empathy to achieve safe, individualized beauty.
London-based periocular surgeon Dr. Rachna Murthy blends scientific precision with artistic sensibility to restore confidence and harmony, redefining safety and beauty through the eyes. Trained in ophthalmology and oculoplastic surgery at renowned institutions including Moorfields Eye Hospital and Chelsea, Dr. Rachna Murthy co-founded FaceRestoration in London with Dr. Jonathan Roos. With more than fifteen years of post-fellowship experience, she combines science and artistry to deliver beauty with safety.
Her artistic passion began early.

The daughter of a plastic surgeon and painter, she learned to colourise black-and-white photographs, nurturing a fascination with eyes and faces. “Aesthetic medicine demands an artistic eye,” she says. “You need scientific grounding and aesthetic sensitivity.” This balance between science and artistry guided her toward thyroid eye disease, where appearance and vision are intertwined. While working at the Cambridge Thyroid Eye Disease Service, she noticed that patients were often more distressed by changes in their appearance than by vision loss. This realisation inspired her to create a holistic model integrating medical, aesthetic, and psychological care.
Her philosophy centres on patient well-being.
Through direct communication (often via a shared WhatsApp group), she ensures that patients feel supported throughout their treatment, surgical or non-surgical. Like a dentist encouraging daily brushing, she provides aftercare plans and skincare routines to extend results. Anatomy remains the foundation of safe practice. “There’s anatomy, and then there’s real anatomy,” she explains. Textbooks offer the framework, yet every patient is different. Even experienced injectors, she advises, should return to cadaveric training to refine anatomical understanding and reduce risk. For patients with conditions such as thyroid disease or facial palsy, she advocates careful planning rather than avoidance. “There is no reason patients cannot pursue treatments that enhance both function and quality of life,” she notes.
Through her contributions to IMCAS Alert, Dr. Murthy shares guidance on complication management and safety in the periorbital region. Her philosophy bridges the precision of science and the sensitivity of art, reminding colleagues that above all, “The patient is looking for you, not your assistant.”
