Medicine: a foregone conclusion

With doctors as parents, I was brought up in a medical environment. My father was a radiologist in Africa and my mother did humanitarian work. At age ten, I used to visit leper colonies while she was carrying out inspections. More than an interest, medicine was something fairly normal for me, I was born into it. There were four children at home, and we all became doctors. I joined the faculty of medicine, in Cochin, Paris, at age fifteen-and-a-half… Having graduated at age 21, and very curious by nature, I started taking an interest in things that were not taught at university and trained in homeopathy and acupuncture. I also have a diploma in aeronautical and space medicine.

A pioneer for women’s wellness

At age 22, I opened my first practice and focused on things I had not been taught, especially concerning women. At the time, not a lot of attention was paid to pregnant women or menopausal women, we gave them nothing even though there were huge deficiencies. This is how I started working with a gynaecology laboratory, the CCD laboratory, to develop food supplements for pregnant women, then to address any deficiencies after the age of fifty and the menopause. I also worked with Doctor Michel Pistor on mesotherapy and with the Swiss on stem cells.

Seeking out cutting-edge technologies for medical aesthetics

I was a consultant for the aerospace industry, where I worked to improve tolerance tests for the astronauts’ air sickness. This is where I discovered all the lasers developed by the Russians; this was before the fall of the Berlin wall. I had access to all the laser files. With Doctor Catherine de Goursac, among others, I opened the first laser epilation centre in Paris, then I took an interest in fractional radiofrequency, LEDs, intra-needle radiofrequency and the first IPL, pulsed light. I then trained in resorbable suspension threads, one of the first doctors to do so.

An expert in collaborating with large laboratories

As a consultant, I worked with L’Oréal to include hyaluronic acid in their creams, which enabled me to test Restylane, the first hyaluronic acid-based filler product, developed by Galderma laboratories. I have also worked with Croma, Vivacy, mesoestetic and Allergan Aesthetic, with whom I launched Juvederm. For the last 10 years I have worked more specifically on regenerative medicine, PRP (platelet-rich plasma) and growth factors. With Doctors Jean-François Bezot and Claude Dalle, I am looking into the effects on the telomeres, and I am developing a technological system for synthetic hair.

International commitment to patient safety

I was president of the ESAAM, the European Society of Preventative, Regenerative and Anti-Aging Medicine (and of the FSMEA), with the aim of training members in order to ensure patient safety: a real political commitment. For the last 30 years, I have worked with Doctor François Turmel to try to get aesthetic medicine recognised by the Ministry of Health. I have worked abroad to spread the word about French medicine by working for 10 years in Abu Dhabi, in the French-Emirate hospital. I was involved in the creation of two anti-aging centres in Geneva and was scientific advisor for the Merano spa. I was also involved in two editions of the SECLARM congress: Swiss Esthetic Congress of Longevity Anti-aging and Regenerative Medicine. I speak at international congresses such as the AMWC and was honorary president of the Dermastic congress in Morocco.

Sport to stay active!

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, which helps me to feel fulfilled. I was a skiing champion at age 20 and a funboard and windsurfing cham- pion, but nowadays I play a lot of golf. Sport is essential for getting rid of stress and maintaining a balance in my life, not forgetting culture and exhibitions!
